Anti-bullying Month

It is National Anti-bullying Month too? October seems to be a month were we concentrate on things we don’t want. Cancer, Bullies, even Zombies. I guess when we take a moment and think about our lives we discover there are a lot of monsters hiding under our beds.

I will be sharing my own “anti-bullying” poem soon. It might look differently than what one might expect from a poem about bullying. But if we are going to rid ourselves of the bully monster that lies under our beds then we need to rethink the disguises that monster wears.

Meanwhile, I want to share Shane Koyczan’s poem To This Day

Let’s be nice to each other.
Peace be with you,
Delaina

A Dance Of Life

For Jer on the anniversary of his birth

A Dance of Life

The winter air creates an icy film on the rocky shore,
when the tide goes out with the moon.

Today the tide returns with the dawn.
Sunny reflections embracing a dark-rocky shore.

This rhythmic dance of life.
The wave’s swell taking before it gives.
Exposing the small, the frail, the left behind.

The lapping-splash of the surf as it crashes,
hard against the shore, sounds like playful voices that morn.

Knowing that life will be washed away,
when the tide goes out to the sea once more.

The sun sets on another day, you did not see.
Your life washed away, from your family.
Fourteen years young you were, but not today.

Time, and love, has fossilized the ripples in the sand you left behind.
The image of you, I held in my memory, has gone out with the tide.

I wonder what you would look like now… alive?
What kind of man would you have been?

The life dreams you had, forever a mystery because you ended them.
No surf-swell will bring you back to me. You, for me, was
the closest to motherhood I every needed to be.

Another dawn will bring the tide.
The salty water will heal and re-place the surface’s wounds.

Life will start to renew, but changed too.
Because of love’s embrace, you will forever be.

This rhythmic dance of life.
The wave’s swell taking before it gives.
Exposing the small, the frail, the left behind.

Happy Birthday Jer
