Mindful Writing Challenge: Day 31

The Deer

In the storm’s quiet
I see you.
Bedded down
on white ground
your peace, consuming.
Tree branches create
the haystack
you are the needle in.

A scene of wintery-land
and serenity.
Caught in my camera’s
lens you are safe.
My beating heart watches you
protects you
from my own warm lair.
In a jump you are gone.

Thawing

thaw

Against the fallen snow
wind kicks up her heels
and the sun tries to burn
through winter grey.

My skin feels the chill
but my soul oozes golden honey.
Words drip love, from my tongue
for life and all its beauty.

Weather’s War

In booms and flashes
rain pelts the house.
Winter pushes at spring’s fronts.
Spring responds with roundhouse kicks
and tornado threats.
By the day’s end
scattering snow confetti
winter will celebrate victory.

Winter’s Day Off

Spring knocks
on Midwestern doors.
Behind cloudy vapors
the sun simpers
at Nature’s little joke.
“Enjoy the day,” it goads
“winter returns tomorrow”.

Career Fair

A sign “Career Fair Today!” hangs
from a table burdened with application forms.

Broadcasting stories
loud voices spilling out of rooms.

“My husband left me;” “it’s my turn;”
“my kids are grown.”

“…just looking for a fresh start.”
“…out of work…”; “…starting out on my own…”

They’re all here looking for a place
that will pay a decent wage on their terms.
