Washing in Gratitude

A gentle lift
and the water flows
crystal pure
capturing light and colors
to reflect them back
for any eye to perceive.

The soap lather —
citrus bright
carries the senses
to a land of
orange trees
and honeysuckle.

Hands move together
coaxing a prayer from flesh
for faucet engineers
flowers and bees
for the company and employees
making soap to keep me clean.

Praise for the persistence
of sunlight, tides,
streams and underground springs
that flow their glistening wealth
over my hands and body
in their particular ways.
