Hello everyone;

I did say "haphazardly" participating in the April PAD Challenge. This is why day one is being posted after day two.
Day 1  prompt of "write an optimistic poem"

Not Dead Yet, Me

Is it really such a tragedy

that my sentences are raggedy

words tread together by similarity?

The conversation is still defiantly

expressions of me.

Is it really such a travesty

that I wander aimlessly?

When I can travel through time so easily

…our life history

…a life lived outrageously.

Is it really such a disparity

that I have forgotten the melody

of your name? Still there’s some clarity….

I know the feelings of family

and passions intensity.

Is it really such an indignity

that something once familiar is now a novelty.

Or that simple tasks escape me.

I still dance to life’s jamboree

and sing majestically.

Is it really such a finality

even as I become more absentee?

There is plenty of life in my legacy.

Don’t bother writing my eulogy,

when there’s still time to create a memory.

Natural Reflections

I stand facing the sun that winter chills
an icy tempest lifts stands of my hair
and slaps my cheeks.
Nature and I catch our breath
in our joint hibernation and meditation.

I prefer spring’s dramatic winds
and autumn’s colorful flare
to summer’s feverish wrath
and winter’s neglectful blight.
Our nature is to thrive unconditionally.

The tree needs our breath
bartering it’s shade and heat.
I understand I am no more important
than the yellow in a Flicker’s tail
no more worthy than the ant.

Though my shoe is small
my footprint is larger than most.
So great the responsibilities,
the bond between inhabitants
to take the rough with the smooth.

  • I like your comparison between our small shoes and our large footprints, oh so true, and our insignificance to the trees.
    Gayle ~

  • So much to love here.. The shared breath, our mutual dependence and how footprints of the scavenger might marr the soil.

  • We like to think that we are so important, but you remind us that we need to consider the other inhabitants of this planet as equally deserving to be here.

  • I like you. You have really good energy.

“Nature and I catch our breath
in our joint hibernation and meditation.”

“Our nature is to thrive unconditionally.”

Wonderful messages throughout, but these touch me the deepest.

  • A not s gentle warning & nudge to our conscience; well said, clever wordsmithing . I li,ke the lines /I am no more important/than the yellow in a Flicker’s tail/no more worthy than the ant/.

  • You’ve given us some wonderful images, Delaina–I especially like:
Nature and I catch our breath
in our joint hibernation and meditation.

  • Lovely write. I like the blend of meditation and hibernation that led to these provocaive thoughts. So nice to read.

  • I love the communion with nature ~ This part just resonated with me strongly about our responsibility:

    Though my shoe is small
my footprint is larger than most.

Thanks for joining us Delaine and wishing you a good week ~

  • I think each of us needs to recognize the size of our footprints! We ALL, every living thing among us, wish to thrive!
