I Have a Dream too
Ole Glory a banner in the wind
tethered to a pole for all to see
the majesty of its symbols and unity.
I bleed red like the stripes,
I am true to the blue,
and I set my hopes in the stars
that I will know freedom like you.
I have a dream too…
love’s full rights to citizenship
right here in the USA.
That my vows of commitment carry
the same weight in law
as my fellow citizen’s rights do.
My love is pure as the white bands,
my perseverance as deep blue,
and my devotion is just as divine as the stars
that so proudly shimmer on our flag.
I have a dream too…
that our children are free
to love their heart’s mate.
That many generations will touch life with full hearts
their own love fulfilled without unjust fear
to their own citizenship.
Their valor as valuable as the blood spilt for freedom.
Their worth no longer dangling fringe on
their horizons in pursuit of justice for love
that so proudly we herald through our flag’s glory.
I have a dream too…
that love triumphs
over hate.

I share your dream 🙂
Then we will see the dream become a reality. Thank you 🙂
Regardless of the color of our blood and allegiance, peace is the goal. Wonderful write
Thank you Beth. Yes you are right!
I think many of us share that dream, Delaina!
Thank you Eric, and thank you for reading. Here’s to dreams being realities! 🙂
really nice sentiments here beautifully versed. Excellent piece. Thanks
Thank you for your time and kind words Fred!
I like this poem. The language chosen and the images presented are those that I (didn’t realize until I read this) associate with rhetoric used in politically conservative propaganda for a subject that the propaganda woud label as subversive. And then I found the co-opting (or more appropriately the reclaiming) of the language for this topic delightfully subversive…especially, when there is nothing subversive in this poem at all! It’s a lovely poem about equality, and it blew my mind. This post was so much fun to read and think about! I just hope that my comments are coherent enough to express that.
Hello Heidi;
Thanks for reading. I was hoping that by using the flag I was moving away from the divisions. It is good to hear that you like it thank you.
it’s good to not let go of that dreams and do our small share to make the countries we live in a better place..
